June 15, 2016 -- What a success! The 2016 Youth Leadership Conference which was held at Daniels Spectrum on May 22nd in Toronto. Our community from across GTA and the surrounding regions have enjoyed our second Annual Youth Conference, and the event is getting rave reviews.
On behalf of the BIKILA AWARD Board of Directors and the Youth Conference planning Committee, we want to extend a heart-felt thanks to all our sponsors, guest speakers, presenters and conference participants for their commitment to making this event so successful. It was the vision of the Board of Directors and the Youth Conference Planning Committee to engage, inform, entertain, and provide a networking forum for our community members in a pleasant, comfortable environment as beautiful and professional as Daniels Spectrum in Toronto.
The conference was impactful, highly engaging and provided mentoring opportunities to the Youth in our community.
As we continue to grow as a community organization, please know that partnerships with our sponsors and the community as a whole are vital to the success of such programs in support of the Youth.

June 15, 2016 -- We are pleased to announce that Yonas Assefa is the winner of the 2016 Bikila Award Essay Contest, “New Thinking”The judges chose his entry out of several essays received from the Ethiopian youth community across the Greater Toronto Area.
Yonas, currently a high School student, is the son of Dr. Mulu Geletu and Ato Assefa Nigussie of Mississauga. He will receive the first Place prize of $500, and his essay will be published in the Bikila Award Website shortly. Congratulations, Yonas!
The Second place $300 winner is Samuel Tesfaye from Kitchener, Ontario. Congratulations, Samuel!
The Third place $200 winner is Kana Nicodemus from Toronto. Congratulations Kana!
We also want to congratulate and thank all of the contestants who entered; we received many outstanding essays. Our only regret is that there can only be one winner for each category. Every youth who entered will receive a certificate of participation.
We once again thank our individual sponsor for helping us open such vital conversations within the youth community and for the financial donation in support of the 2016 Bikila Essay Contest.
